Hoi,

Ik heb een roer van een Albin Ballad met een barst aan de voorkant, ik laat het morgen vallen en wilde het naar iemand brengen om het te laten herbouwen. Heeft iemand suggesties van iemand om dit te doen?

Als ik niet kan vinden dat iemand dit doet, snij ik de bovenkant misschien af en bouw ik hem opnieuw op met hard PU-schuim en glas.

Hi the boat is near Dordrecht, but I will be dropping it out of the boat tomorrow and can take it on a trailer to within 2 hours drive of Dordrecht.

If i cant find someone to do it for a reasonable amount I can probably do it myself by taking a side off, taking out all of the filler, epoxying up the crack, resealing the stock, filling with a heavy PU foam and glassing it all back up.

Why not make a rudder by laminating marine plywood sheets with epoxy on the 'fingers' welded to the rudder stock? Give it an appropiate NACA profile. Then some layers of epoxy and glass.
I think that is stronger and more durable.
I couldn't find the link to descriptions by Il Cigno. Il Cigno and FriendlySailor made their own rudders, amongst others. Years ago I gave my rudder a NACA profile following Il Cigno's description.
Recently there was this discussion. GMDV already mentioned Modus Marine in Lelystad.

Edit: I haven't found IlCigno's original thread about his new ruddder, but I found his thread of repairing a windvane, including the description and pictures of making a new rudder for that windvane (on pages 3-5). Same principle.

yes i contacted modus - they have a pretty steep price.

I dont think using wood in the core is a good idea, water will get in and destroy it and you will be constantly fixing it. Better off using a hard (70kg/m2) closed cell PU foam and glass the tangs to the skin.

Pu will also get affected by water. It is not a proper core material. Have a look at expanding epoxy foams, a lot more suitable.

yes expanding epoxy would also be suitable and far better then wood, i actually found one that is 170kg/sqm and doesnt need post curing unlike the one Mads used on saillife.
